Looking for a gift for the beer lover in your life, dig your car out from under the snow bank and get to Bières etc. they have a great selection of Quebec Microbrews along with beer glasses and artisanal food products that will make any beer lover happy on Christmas day.
Adri and I made our way there this Saturday despite the frozen rain, and the reason why we had to get there with such urgency was because Bridgette, the gracious owner, opened up some rare and special bottles to share with her loyal and loving customers. The atmosphere in the shop that day was festive and light, with beer lovers alike staying warm in Bridgette's cozy beer shop. We hung around for about an hour trying out some of the wonderful brews she reserved for the shops 2nd Anniversary.
Out of the four, or five, we tasted two stood out: Dieu du Ciel's Solstice D'Hiver, bourbon barrel aged (ratebeer has the oak aged version, but the one we tasted was in fact bourbon barrel aged), and Dunham's Assemblage Numero 1. The Solstice D'Hiver was too delicious to describe, but to give you an idea, it tasted like a rich, deep maple syrup liquor. While on the opposite end of the spectrum Assemblage Numero 1 was refreshing, acidic, tart, and quite dry. And, somewhere in the mix we had a solid wit and a brett beer that tasted like aged parmigiana cheese - I prefer my cheese on pasta.
As usual we never leave there empty handed and always take Bridgette's recommendations on her newest additions to her ever evolving selection. We took the Draconic Transylvanian Pale Ale by microbrasserie Kruhnen along with the H by Brasseurs Illimites home, and we will definitely be sharing them over Christmas dinner.
From Adri and I, we would like to wish you all a very merry Christmas!
Cheers!
- Jean and Adri
